Understanding Attachment

When we talk about “attachment,” we’re really talking about how we connect with others, especially in close relationships. Our attachment style forms early in life based on how our caregivers responded to our needs. But it doesn’t stop there. It continues to shape the way we relate to friends, partners, and even coworkers.

There are a few common attachment styles: secure, anxious, avoidant, and a mix of anxious-avoidant. If you’ve ever felt like you’re “too much” in relationships, like you always need space, or you keep people at a distance without knowing why, it may be connected to your attachment style.

The good news? Attachment patterns can change. With insight, support, and practice, we can learn new ways of relating that feel safer, more balanced, and more fulfilling. Therapy can be a great place to explore your attachment style, understand the roots of your patterns, and build stronger, healthier connections moving forward.

Curious about how attachment shows up in your life? Let’s talk.

I’m now accepting virtual therapy clients in Ohio, Illinois, New York, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Florida. Reach out to learn more.
